New app helps veterans find services, programs


pA new app will ease veteran access to needed services and programs./ppAnnounced by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo Thursday, the “NYS Veterans” app, which can be downloaded free of charge for iOS and Android platforms, will help the state’s 900,000 veterans connect with health care, housing, employment and education materials as well as filing claims for financial veterans’ benefits with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs./ppThe app’s “Near Me” feature pinpoints a user’s proximity to the nearest Division of Veterans’ Affairs field offices and county Veterans Service Agency offices and provides updates on state and federal programs for veterans./pp“The brave men and women of the armed forces have dedicated their lives to defending our nation and this new app helps ensure these heroes and their families have access to the resources and services they need after returning home,” Gov. Cuomo said. “This is one more way we are using technology to make a smarter and stronger New York.”/p
