Hoffman still works at the track, which now has video lottery machines and since 2011 has been called Saratoga Casino and Raceway.

[…] among the oldest operating harness tracks in the country, the track has welcomed 24 million guests, produced 11,000 racing programs and taken in $1.5 billion in on-track handle since it opened on June 26, 1941.

More than 4,000 racing fans poured onto the track grounds the day it opened in 1941 to enjoy the advent of night racing and parimutuel betting, a then-innovative concept that pooled wagers and replaced individual bookmakers.

A decline in attendance and handle during the 1980s and 1990s led management to also host concerts, auto shows and equine events at the 190-acre property, renamed the Saratoga Equine Sports Center in 1998.

Revenue sharing from the machines has helped increase race purses, while simulcasting races from the harness track raised a record handle of $36 million in 2015.
