State lifts ban on live fowl at fairs

ALBANY — A yearlong ban on live fowl competitions at state and county fairs in New York was lifted Tuesday by state agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball, as the threat of bird flu has decreased.

The state Department of Agriculture and Markets issued the ban last year following an outbreak of avian flu in the Midwest.
