BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — “When my baby was laid out on the floor he wasn’t responding or nothing and I grabbed towels and put it on my baby’s head to hold him and I held pressure and my baby gasped one breath of air when I did that,” said Sonia Pagan, Juan Rodriguez’s mom.

Sonia Pagan says she was inside her home with her 11-year-old son Juan Rodriguez, who goes by the nickname Macho, when they heard gunfire just before 8 pm last night.

“We hear two shots and my son runs directly to the door because his sisters were outside which is 14 and 7 years old was outside sitting on the porch and playing or whatever,” said Pagan.

Pagan says the first shot missed him but the second hit him directly in the forehead while he was standing in the doorway.

“I heard two pops I thought it was fire crackers. then I heard it again so I ran to the front of my house and I heard Machos mom screaming and then I looked and saw his feet hanging out the door,” said Chantel Duncan, a witness.

“It’s crazy cause I’ve never heard of an 11 year old running toward gun fire and that’s exactly what he did he ran from the back of the house to the front of the house he opened the door so his brothers and sisters could get in I think his sister got in last and that’s when a bullet hit him in the head,” said Michael Clark, a witness and family friend.

Neighbors are calling him a hero, for doing what they say could’ve protected other kids from the gun shots.

“He saved his sisters if he did not open that door those two shots would’ve been for his sisters,” said Pagan.

Twenty year old Datavion Magee was also shot and remains in critical condition at ECMC with Juan. Pagan says the left side of her son’s body is not functioning. Police suspect the shooting was gang related.

“One thing after another it keeps going in a circle oh this person shot this I’m going to go get this person back and it keeps going and they don’t have no respect for nobodys life,” said Pagan.
