The bulk of the scoring for the UAlbany basketball team was done by sophomore guards Joe Cremo and David Nichols on Friday night.

The 6-foot-7 junior converted a three-point play with 34 seconds left, helping the Danes to a 70-67 victory in front of 1,327 at Levien Gymnasium in New York City.

Brown said that Stire has worked extremely hard on becoming a better free-throw shooter.

Columbia freshman guard Mike Smith, who led the Lions with 21 points, scored on a layup, and after Stire made one of two free throws, Smith hit a 3-pointer to make the score 68-67 with a second left.

Nichols had five and Cremo had four.

“Because the two of them handle the ball so much, they are going to have turnovers trying to create something out of nothing,” Brown said.
