Country star Travis Tritt to perform at Lewis County Fair

LOWVILLE — After featuring young up-and-coming singers for many years, the 2018 Lewis County Fair for the second straight year will bring in a well-known country music artist as its Friday night headliner.Fair officials have announced that Travis Tritt is slated to perform at 8 p.m. July 20 at the Lewis County Fairgrounds grandstand, and tickets will soon be available.“We’re hoping people can use them for Christmas gifts, if they like,” said Douglas P. Hanno, president of the Lewis County Agricultural Society, which operates the county fair. After years of having up-and-coming stars perform at the grandstand venue, fair directors last year went in the opposite direction and landed the legendary Charlie Daniels Band in hopes of boosting attendance. And it worked, as officials were very happy with the 2017 performance and turnout.“We still have people talking about how great it was,” Mr. Hanno said.“More than 25 years after Travis Tritt launched his music career, the Grammy award-winning artist continues to sell out shows and stay true and relevant to country music fans across the globe,” states a release posted on the fair’s website. “A Marietta, Ga. native, Travis Tritt is dubbed one of ‘The Class of ‘89,’ which included country music superstars Garth Brooks, Clint Black and Alan Jackson, all of whom dominated the charts in the early ‘90s.”Among his 11 studio albums and charted singles are 19 Top 10 hits, including “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde,” “Here’s A Quarter” and “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive”; he has won two Grammy awards and had multiple No. 1 singles on the country radio charts, it adds.More information on Travis Tritt may be found on his website — — and his Twitter and Facebook accounts. The cost of tickets for the show will be $30 for trackside festival style and $25 for grandstand seats. No seats are provided for trackside attendees, since “everyone is on their feet anyway,” the fair website states.Tickets will soon be available at Countryside Veterinary Clinic, Utica Boulevard, and may be reserved by calling 315-376-6563 and asking for Donna. They are also available for purchase online at 198th edition of the Lewis County Fair will be held from July 17 to 21.Although directors have decided to shift toward more well-known, established singers, the fair president did note that two Lewis County Fair alumni fared well at the recent Country Music Association awards. Jon Pardi, who performed here in 2014, won the award for best new artist, while 2015 performer Eric Church was nominated for both entertainer and male vocalist of the year awards.
