Abelove awaits grand jury's decision

Troy
A more than year-long investigation of District Attorney Joel E. Abelove by the state attorney general’s office will be laid bare in a Rensselaer County courtroom Friday afternoon when a judge is expected to unseal criminal charges related to Abelove’s controversial handling of the fatal police shooting of a DWI suspect.
Abelove, in the third year of his first term as district attorney, is scheduled to appear at 1 p.m. before Columbia County Court Judge Jonathan D. Nichols flanked by two attorneys, including prominent Albany criminal defense attorney William J. Dreyer. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s office has not disclosed to Abelove, 48, what charges he may face.
