Gouverneur – Maxine Mary Countryman, 68, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 20th at 11:00 am at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Fr. Gregory Bailey, pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church officiating and spring burial in New St. James Cemetery, Gouverneur. Calling hours are on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Maxine was born in Gouverneur on September 15, 1949, the daughter of Harold and Mary Hitchman Burns.

She graduated from Gouverneur High School and lived most of her life in the Gouverneur area.

Maxine and her husband owned and operated M & M Market on Hailesboro Street in Gouverneur. She enjoyed playing bingo, her dog Baby, socializing with friends and neighbors at Pine Grove Apartments, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was previously married to Mike Countryman.

Maxine is survived by her daughters Cassi Prashaw of Gouverneur, Cristi Bush of Harrisville, her grandchildren Ashley Lewis, Megan Prashaw, Karlie Gordon, Cameron Jefferson, Cramer Jefferson, and Alek Prashaw, her great grandchildren Maxwell, Peyson, Ezra, Sullie, Paxton, Alexianna, Oaklynn, and Angler. She is also survived by her sisters Bonnie Burns and Vickie Law, both of Gouverneur, nieces and nephews. Maxine is predeceased by her parents.

Memorial donations in Maxine’s memory may be made to the Richard E. Winters Cancer Treatment Center, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Foundation, 125 New York Ave., Ogdensburg, NY 13669.
