Mrs Evelyn Frances Hale Dwyer, age 96, of Potsdam passed away on January 11, 2018 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Evelyn was born in Norwood, N. Y. on October 5, 1921 the daughter of the late Roscoe Wallace and Jenny Thompson Hale. She attended schools in Norwood and Potsdam. In July1938 she married Donald J. Dwyer in Potsdam and shared a loving relationship for 40 years. Her husband was an employee of Niagara Mohawk and died in 1978. Evelyn was a stay-at-home Mom until her 4 children were in school. At that time she went to work at W.T. Grants in Potsdam and worked for 20 years. During her life she was an active volunteer at the Blood Clinics, Hospital Guild, and the Methodist Church in Norwood; she loved to crochet and knit many things for her family and charities. Evelyn enjoyed belonging to the Senior Citizens’ Club, AARP, Sandstoners and served as an officer in each organization. She loved to go camping with her husband in their travel trailer and she enjoyed traveling to England, Scotland, Brazil, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, California, and Florida. Most of all she enjoyed sharing time with her children and grandchildren. Evelyn is survived by her son David (Peggy) Dwyer of Spring Hill, Florida, daughters Marilyn (Stan) McDonald of Maui, Hawaii, Kathleen Lakins of Lakeland, Florida, and her daughter-in-law Bonnie Dwyer of Bushnell, Florida. She also leaves her Grandchildren Susan McDonald Leeder, Jennifer McDonald Crossthwaite, Steven Lakins, Jacquelyn Lakins Carman, Elizabeth Dwyer Dinerstein, Christian Dwyer, Joe Smith, Jenny Smith Krantz, 11 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great, Great Grandchildren. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, her brothers: Lloyd, Roscoe and William Hale, sisters: Virginia Slack, Dorothy Washburn, Alma Beaudin, Beatrice Podgurski, Barbara Perry, Geraldine Lawrence, Sally Beamish, Patricia White, her son, Donald Joseph Dwyer Jr., and grandaughter Karen Elizabeth Lakins.

Visitation will be held in the Spring at the Garner Funeral Home on Lawrence Ave. Potsdam at a time to be determined. Internment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam. Online condolences can be shared @garnerfh.com
