State task force unveils plastic bag solutions

Albany
A comprehensive state Department of Conservation report detailing potential solutions to address single-use plastic shopping bags has been sent to the governor and legislature for further study and potential action.
Plastic-bag use “is a significant environmental problem in New York State,” said Basil Seggos, DEC commissioner and chair of the NYS Plastic Bag Task Force, which announced the report on Saturday afternoon.
“New Yorkers use about 23 billion bags every year — and most of those end up in garbage. And if they’re not in garbage, they’re in streets, they’re in trees, or they find their ways into waterways,” he told the Times Union Saturday.
