Two charged in connection to Watertown armed robbery investigation

WATERTOWN — Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies charged two men in connection to an armed robbery and shooting that likely took place at the Salmon Run Mall.Law enforcement first got involved around 9 p.m. Monday when Howard L. Booker, 23, of Watertown, received treatment at Samaritan Medical Center, then Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, for a gunshot wound to the arm.The sheriff’s office took over the case from Watertown city police when it was determined the shooting likely took place at the mall, outside the city.Sheriff’s deputies and the Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force interviewed multiple subjects near the shooting, and determined the parties knew each other, and that the shooting was connected to drugs. On Tuesday afternoon, the task force charged Orlando C. Kinsey, 21, of Watertown, with third-degree criminal possession of marijuana.Mr. Kinsey and Mr. Brooker, released from the hospital Wednesday morning, were each charged with first-degree robbery. Both are being held without bail at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.Deputies said their investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible. They said the incident was not connected to a knifepoint robbery investigated this week in Wilna. Those with information about the shooting are asked to contact sheriff’s deputies at 315-786-2676.
