WATERTOWN — A vacant double-wide trailer sustained major damage in a fire late Monday night, fire department officials said. The blaze at 27538 Perch Lake Road was called in at 11:47 p.m., according to Jefferson County dispatchers.Fire could be seen raging in the building’s roof and throughout most of the home.“The problem was the building was fully involved before we got there,” said Pamelia Fire Chief Greg French.Chief French said that they learned that the trailer had been recently purchased, that there had been some work done to the trailer’s interior and that there was functioning electricity in the building. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by county fire officials, Chief French said.Among the challenges for firefighters Monday night was the below-freezing temperatures at the scene.“Whenever it’s that cold, you’re trying to make sure things don’t freeze on you,” Chief French said. Also responding at the scene were the Evans Mills, North Pole, Glen Park, Great Bend, Calcium, Brownville and Black River fire departments and the Evans Mills Ambulance Squad.Footage of the fire can be seen at http://wdt.me/pamelia-fire-helmet.
