HARRISVILLE – Bruce Clay, 78, 8258 NYS Rte 3, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday morning, February 13, 2018 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Arthur Bruce Huberts, Jr. in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 18, 1939, the son of Arthur Bruce and Joanna Wilhelmina VanderLaan Huberts. Prior to his enlistment into the United States Army in 1958, he had his name legally changed to Bruce Clay in honor of his stepfather, Wilford L. Clay. His military career took him across the globe over the next 20 years. He served in such places as Korea, Japan, Germany, India, Turkey and Iran, before retiring from active duty in 1978. As a civilian, he continued to work for the Military.
In May of 1966 he married Jocelyn Anne Cabral in India. She passed away on July 27, 2004. On February 11, 2006, he married Trudy D. Farr at home in Harrisville. His church and his country were very important to him; he was a member and trustee of the Stone Road Baptist Church, a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed politics, yard work, watching television and listening to audio books. He became a Mason while stationed in Japan.
He is survived by his wife, Trudy, at home, his children; Judy & Edward Jackson, Ransomeville, NY, Joan Stempien, Niagara Falls, NY and Stanley & Amy Clay, Fairport, NY, his stepchildren; Stephen Sanders, Edwards, NY, Neil Sanders and his companion, Tracey, Chittenango, NY, Trudy Mansil, Harrisville and Joseph Sanders and his companion Cherie, Midway, GA. He is also survived by his brother and his wife, Ted & Jann Clay, Farmington, MI, his grandchildren; Stephanie and John Stempien, Christopher and Jennifer Jackson and Katie Clay, his step-grandchildren; Ashley, John and Shayna Sanders, Lenora and Cody Mansil, Joseph, Hunter and Ruby Sanders, as well as his great grandchildren; Mason Tallon, Bentlee Sanders and one expected in May 2018.
Along with his first wife, Jocelyn, he is predeceased by his brother, Jeffrey Huberts.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Feb 18th at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, with Pastor Kevin Bates officiating. A memorial reception will follow at the Harrisville Fire Hall. Calling hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb 17th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Spring burial with Military Honors will be held in Harrisville Cemetery.
