College men’s hockey: Clarkson makes first tournament since 2008; will play Providence Friday

INDIANAPOLIS — The Clarkson University men’s hockey team will be the No. 3 seed in the East Regional at Bridgeport, Conn.Clarkson will take on second-seded Providence 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.The winner will take on the winner of top-seeded Big Ten champion Notre Dame and No. 4 Michigan Tech on Saturday.The Golden Knights have beaten the Friars in two previous meetings this season. Clarkson won, 4-0, at Cheel Arena on Oct. 21 and took the Friendship Four championship, 4-2, Nov, 25 in Belfast. It’s the first time the Golden Knights have made the NCAA tournament since 2008.
