Basil E. Cheney
Basil E. Cheney, age 90, Parishville, NY passed away May 28, 2018 at his home. Friends may call on Saturday, June 2nd from noon until 2pm at the Garner Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service for both Basil and Norma, immediately following, at the Fairview Cemetery in Parishville. Basil was born April 19, 1928 in Parishville, NY the son of late Reuben and Mollie (Chase) Cheney. Basil owned and operated Tennant Electric Motor Service in Potsdam, NY for many years. Basil was a member of both the Elks Lodge and the Lions Club. Upon retiring from Tennant Electric in 1988, he worked as the superintendent of Kildare Club, Tupper Lake, NY. He worked there with his wife Norma until fully retiring in 2000.
Basil was also a 48 year member of the St. Regis Club, and while both Kildare and St. Regis Club were near and dear to his heart, his truest love was for his wife, Norma Cheney. They married on August 15, 1965 in Brasher Falls and were married 50 years until her death in 2016. Basil enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and was an avid New York Yankees fan as well.
Basil was known by all as a kind, honest, hardworking man with great integrity. The love he shared with Norma was incredible to behold and a blessing to his family and friends. He was an honorable man who touched many lives and he will be sorely missed.
Basil is survived by four children, Ronald Cascanette of Norfolk, NY; Cheryl (Mohsen) Monsef of Cedar Rapids, IA; Bonnie (Dave) DeGostin of Clay, NY and Basil (Kristen) Cheney of Canton, NY. Grandchildren; Laurie, Tracy, Jeri Lyn, Shelby, Anahita, Soraya, and Basil; 6 great grandchildren; son in law Mike Bonno of Potsdam; brother Paul Cheney of Portland, OR; sister Betty Cyrus of Fulton, NY and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Basil was predeceased by his wife Norma, his brothers Amos, Douglas and Bradley and his daughter Harriet Bonno.
