New community garden on Binghamton’s East Side

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — There’s a brand new community garden in town thanks to local community members hard work.

Dozens of people donated their time Saturday morning to build 10 garden beds on Abbott Street in Binghamton.

This is one of 12 gardens installed through Volunteers Improving Neighborhood Environments Incorporated, or VINES.

Organizers say it’s the first garden to be built on Binghamton’s East side.

The proposal for the garden was submitted by a Binghamton University Junior, Georgia Kerkezis.

Funding for this garden was provided by the Conrad & Virginia Klee Foundation in conjunction with VINES fundraising.

Garden beds will be available for purchase by anyone who is interested.
