TOWN OF MAINE (WBNG) — Authorities say a fire broke out in an apartment on the second floor of the building above Kelli’s Too Deli on Route 26.

According to the Town of Maine Assistant Fire Chief, the fire started in a four bedroom apartment around 6:20 p.m. on one of the couches.

Firefighters say they were able to put out the fire successfully. Kelli’s Too Deli was not damaged by the fire and will be open for business tomorrow.

The intersection of Lewis Street and Route 26 was closed as of 8 p.m.

The apartment did not have structural damage, but the residents inside have been displaced. Authorities are looking to find shelter for those residents, as freezing temperatures outside pose a threat.

No injuries have been reported.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Union, Town of Maine, and Newark Valley all responded to the scene.
