BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The New York Knicks have traded Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks, the Mavericks announced Thursday evening. It’s a seven-player trade with Dennis Smith Jr. as the centerpiece coming to New York. The Knicks are sending Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr., Courtney Lee and Trey Burke to the Mavericks in exchange for Smith Jr., DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews and two future first-round picks. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the two draft picks coming to New York are a 2021 unprotected first-round pick and a 2023 protected first-round pick (1-10).

According to an ESPN report, Porzingis met with Knicks management on Thursday and expressed concern with the losing, franchise direction and an uncertainty that a culture is developing that will enable sustainable organizational success. Shortly after, Wojnarowski tweeted Porzingis left the meeting with the impression he prefers to be traded.

Porzingis, the former fourth-overall pick in 2015, leaves the Knicks after four seasons. He has not played this season as he recovers from a torn ACL. Before injuring his left knee in 2017-18, he was averaging a career-best 22.7 points per game and was named to the All-Star team.
