BU Job and Internship Fair helps students build connections

VESTAL (WBNG) — It was an enthusiastic environment at Binghamton University’s Business and Communications Job and Internship Fair on Thursday, with some students tackling a career search for the very first time.

While applying online plays a role, those we spoke with say there are benefits of meeting employers face-to-face.

“In person, there’s kind of that ‘it’ factor that somebody can have over another person just by socializing and interacting with them,” Jack Burns, Binghamton University student, said.

It’s equally beneficial for hiring companies, too.

“Employers like to see that you not only apply online, but you go above and beyond. You attend their informational sessions. You go to the fair to network with them and it puts a face to the experience that they read on the resume,” Erin Cody, job fair organizer, said.

Hopefully, after all of this hard work, students like Burns will land their dream job. Burns said someday he wants to be, “some kind of travelling salesman where a majority of my interactions in a business perspective are just with other people, in social settings.”
