Binghamton hosts NYSPHSAA boys basketball state championships

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The NYSPHSAA boys basketball state championships will take place in Binghamton this weekend, at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

Games tip off Friday at 9:30 a.m., and run through Sunday. 15 games will be played in total. On Thursday night, a welcome reception was held to get ready for the action.

“My number one goal as the executive director is to make sure that the student athletes who participate are being shown first-class treatment, that they feel like this tournament is the best tournament that they ever had the opportunity to participate in,” said NYSPHSAA executive director Robert Zayas. “I can tell you when they come to Binghamton, that’s the way they feel, and that’s the way they’re treated. It’s a direct result to Ben (Nelson), the committee and the entire community coming together to show those student athletes what a first-class state championship is.”
