Thousands expected at St. Patrick’s Day parade in Boston

BOSTON (AP) — Tens of thousands of people are expected to line the streets of Boston for the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade.

The parade is a central part of the city’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Among those planning to march in the parade is Republican Gov. Charlie Baker, Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito and Boston Mayor Martin Walsh.

Ahead of the parade, the state’s political leaders were gathering for the St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast in South Boston.

Baker is one of the event’s headliners. U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Walsh are among the top Democrats who also planned to attend the breakfast.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who is running for the Democratic nomination for president, is campaigning in Tennessee on Sunday and wasn’t scheduled to attend the event.
