(WBNG) — 12 News is hearing from a former employee and local resident after two Friendly’s locations closed in our area.

The restaurants in Endicott and the town of Chenango are both closed after the company closed 23 locations in the Northeast, including 14 in New York.

“It’s just sad to see an icon from my childhood like that go down the drain,” said Alex Lopez.

Lopez worked at the Endicott location in high school years ago. While he has fond memories,  he says it’s changed over the years.

“Quality isn’t the same, the prices have gone through the roof and I understand how people can’t really afford that anymore, to take a family out of four it’s like 60, 70 bucks to go there, it really is.”

Friendly’s CEO George Michel sent this letter out to franchisees, which 12 News received from a Friendly’s media spokesperson:

The Johnson City Friendly’s on Harry L. Drive remains open.
