Police: A distracted driver in Delaware County causes multiple injuries

TOWN OF WALTON (WBNG) — A crash on Monday morning in Delaware County left multiple people with injuries.

According to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, a 19-year-old from Margaretville was driving down State Highway 10 when he became distracted. In an attempt to avoid a construction vehicle, he crossed into the northbound lane where he struck a vehicle operated by a 76-year-old from Clemson, South Carolina. The teen’s vehicle then struck another vehicle driven by a 37-year-old from Walton, then that vehicle struck a vehicle operated by a 59-year-old from Tonawanda.

The Clemson man and his passenger were not injured. The Tonawanda man and his passenger were also unharmed.

The Walton man was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital with a leg injury and his passenger was airlifted to Wilson Hospital with a possible spinal injury.

The Margaretville teen was also transported to Delaware Valley Hospital to treat possible internal injuries and was issued traffic summonses for speed not reasonable and prudent and failure to keep right. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Walton Court

Deputies were assisted at the scene by members of the Village of Walton Police Department, New York State Police, Walton Fire and EMS, Downsville EMS and AMR Ambulance Service.
