Behind the Boards – with coach Mark Dennehy

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — As the Binghamton Devils prepare for two home games this week, 12 Sports Director Nicole Menner goes behind the boards with B-Devils coach Mark Dennehy.

How Dennehy assesses the team at this point:

“I like the progress of this team, I think our goaltending has really improved as the season’s gone on. We’re making huge strides defensively and our special teams have contributed. I like where we’re trending. Like I said we’re limiting teams to opportunities, we’re getting more ourselves. I’d like to see us get a little bit better offensively.”

On the productive top line of Ben Street, Brett Seney, and Joey Anderson:

“Yeah great point. Both of those guys are pretty skilled offensive players. Joe Anderson contributes quite a bit makes a lot of nice plays but we need more secondary scoring if we can. We call it foundation offense. We want to make sure we have a net front presence, and we’re getting pucks to the net. If we’re doing that throughout our lineup some of the other lines will score as well.”

On the current goaltending situation and addition of goalie Louis Domingue:

“Well whenever you can add a goaltender, an NHL caliber goaltender to the mix that’s going to benefit your entire organization. So it’s great for both our younger goalies, both Gilles (Senn) and Evan (Cormier) to watch him and see how he operates. Whenever you have depth in goaltending position it’s like pitching in baseball, it’s a big differentiation in wins and losses.

On having no mid-week game this week:

“We’ve had four or five weeks in a row with a midweek game and it kind of limits what you can do, you’re really conserving energy. So we’re able to go a little bit harder in practice this week. but it also allowed us to kind of take a step away and almost take an extra day off to make sure we come into this weekend with a lot of energy.”

The Binghamton Devils host the Lehigh Valley Phantoms Friday, and the Springfield Thunderbirds Saturday. Puck drop for both games is at 7:05 p.m.
