NEW YORK (WBNG/CBS/AP) — Carlos Beltran has stepped down from his position as manager for the New York Mets before he ever managed a game.

Beltran’s decision to step down follows questions about his role in the Houston Astro’s 2017 sign-stealing scandal.

The New York Mets tweeted statements from COO Jeff Wilpon and Executive Vice President & General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen on Carlos Beltran resignation. They also tweeted a statement from Beltran.

Beltran is the third manager in the MLB to lose his job due to the scandal. Houston Astro’s manager A.J. Hinch was fired on Monday and Boston Red Sox Manager Alex Cora was fired on Tuesday.
