SARATOGA SPRINGS – The promised Marylou Whitney pavilion that was supposed to be built on the spot where the philanthropist and socialite fed Saratoga Race Course backstretch workers every Sunday more than a dozen years will have to be moved to a new location.

The piece of land, next to the backstretch recreation center, is now home to a daycare center for the track workers, which upset and surprised Whitney’s widower John Hendrickson.

“They took my space,” Hendrickson said. “The Governor (Andrew Cuomo) just came here last year and told us he would put a pavilion, the Marylou Whitney Pavilion, and now you put up a daycare center….Where am I supposed to go? A daycare center is great, but they didn’t give me a fair warning.”
