Echo Town rallies for win in Jerkens at Saratoga

A strong late rally was enough to propel Echo Town past 10 other 3-year-olds to win the Grade I, $300,000 H. Allen Jerkens Stakes by 3 1/2 lengths under jockey Ricardo Santana Jr., who piloted the colt through seven furlongs in 1:22.53 over the track listed as fast.

The Kentucky-bred by Speightstown was making his first start at Saratoga after finishing second to rival No Parole in the Grade I Woody Stephens on June 20 at Belmont Park for Hall for Fame trainer Steve Asmussen.

“He ran an excellent race,” Asmussen said. “Ricardo did a great job with him today. I think the timing for him was better going into today than the Woody Stephens, and he showed it today.”
