(WBNG) — Two of Congressman Anthony Brindisi’s bills giving aid to veterans were signed into law by President Trump.

The bills were a part of the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act of 2019.

The package includes a bill requiring the VA to staff at least one Suicide Prevention Coordinator at each VA Medical Facility as a part of Brindisi’s  Access to Suicide Prevention Coordinators Act.

The package also includes a bill requiring the VA to have a text messaging option for Veterans seeking assistance from the Women Veterans Call Center, expanding the centers capabilities to help veterans in need.

The second bill also requires the VA to improve the available outreach to women Veterans by publishing a website providing information about benefits and services they may use.

“Our Veterans sacrificed so much for our country, and I will always fight to ensure they receive the care and benefits they earned. That includes mental health care. This bipartisan package of reforms will expand access to mental health resources and help address the suicide crisis among our nation’s Veterans. I am honored that two of my bills were included and I’m glad to see President Trump sign them into law today,” Brindisi said.

With these additions, Congressman Brindisi has had six bills signed into law. Five of these bills help to support U.S. service members and Veterans.

Congressman Brindisi said, “Just one Veteran lost to suicide is one too many. Our nation’s heroes deserve the very best care, and this bill will help ensure every Veteran has a place to turn for help. We cannot rest until the number of Veterans lost to suicide reaches zero.”
